Nestle Purina originally began providing animal food in 1894 when William Danforth established the Purina Mills Company as a way for farmers to readily access livestock feed.

Eventually, in the early 1930s, Danforth started a line of dry dog food, which expanded to include dry cat food as well. In 1985, Purina merged with the Swiss company Nestles to become the Nestle Purina PetCare Company.

Kelp, seaweed and algae are sources of iodine, iron, trace minerals and potassium for cats.

Different kinds of sea vegetables contain easily digestible proteins necessary for a cat's health and blue-green algae and sea lettuce are forms of seaweed that provide iron and glycogen precursors that enhance brain functioning and cognition.

Surfin & Turfin Favorites -This kind of cat food offers cats the taste of both seafood and meat such as chicken, whitefish, salmon, liver and beef.

Designed for cats seven years and older, Senior Diet is made with bite-sized pieces of meat with extra support for optimal immune system functioning.

Nutritional supplements include taurine, potassium iodide, vitamin D3, copper sulfate and vitamin E.

Taurine is especially important to a cat because of its ability to prevent feline retinal degeneration and potential irreversible blindness.

In addition, taurine contributes to heart and oral health as well.

Cats require sufficient amounts of taurine in their diet because they are unable to naturally synthesize it within their body.

Special Diet

The Special Diet line contains nutrients that enhance feline urinary tract health by decreasing the pH level in urine and lower levels of magnesium that may contribute to kidney stones.

Flavors of Special Diet are beef and liver, ocean whitefish, salmon and chicken and beef.

Special Diet is not available as a dry food but could be supplemented with Friskies Indoor Delights brand dry cat food.
