Iams Cat Food
High Quality Nutrition

The Iams cat food company operates under strict guidelines that ensure the safety and quality of all their pet foods and products.

Throughout the entire process of manufacturing all foods, Iams runs over 125 quality control inspections on every bag of dry food shipped from its plants.

Inspectors take samples from each batch of food made and run nutritional analysis tests on the ingredients contained in the food.

The Premium lines of pet foods manufactured by Iams are based on a "fixed formula" rather than a "least-cost" formula. This means that regardless of the cost of the ingredients, the recipe used to make the food does not change.

Consistency and exceptional quality is the benefit of their "fixed formula" pet foods because every bag of Premium Iams cat food and dog food provides pets with the same high-quality, nutritional ingredients every time.

Iams Veterinary Formula Intestinal Plus Low Residue Canned Cat Food 6-oz can 12-count

Cats frequently suffer from gastrointestinal conditions due to hairballs that cause gas, loose stools and vomiting.

Nutritional management of excessive hairballs in cats with long hair is the concern of Low Residue Iams cat food, which contains beet pulp and cellulose, two ingredients that promote intestinal health and the easy passage of hairballs ingested during self-grooming sessions.

Researchers found that cats fed a diet of this special food experienced a nearly 80 percent increase in the ability to excrete hairballs when eating a diet containing cellulose and beet pulp.

In addition, this food also provides necessary amounts of taurine and fatty acids cats need for overall health.

Iams Brand History

Founded by Paul F. Iams in 1946, Iams is now one of the most popular cat foods in the U.S.

Mr. Iams studied cats and dogs nutrition needs by working with breeders and learning how important protein and fats are in a pet's diet.

He was also one of the first people understand that cats and dogs were carnivores and required a diet consisting of primarily meat.

The Iams pet food company made several important discoveries over the years that followed its inception

  • In 1968, researchers working for Iams found that beet pulp actually promoted digestion processes in cats
  • In 1998, the company developed a system called the Nitrogen Trap™ Fiber System contained in Iams cat food that effectively controls renal disease while maintaining an adequate amount of protein in the diet ((US Patents 5,965,175 and 6,093,418 were granted in 1999 and 2000).

  • Scientists working for Iams in 2000 conducted research concerning the causes of obesity in cats found that a certain level of vitamin A may prevent weight gain.

  • In 2001, Iams made the product "Dental Defense" available that reduces tartar build-up in cats by as much as 55 percent.
  • In 2008, Iams pet food began to include a formula called Iams® Premium Protection™, which increases a pet's metabolism while maintaining muscle integrity and burning fat in obese animals

Iams also produces Eukanuba pet food and products but is not affiliated with outside pet food business and remained independently owned until 1999, when Proctor and Gamble acquired most of its company's shares.
